Motorola purchases Twisted Pair

Post by wavetar »

A little surprising, considering Motorola recently released their MotoTRBO Anywhere solution. Looks like they'll integrate the best of both into a single platform.

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Time will tell just how well of a marriage this turns out to be. The twisted pair system that the military users have been using takes some real skill to set up and use.

Be interesting on where this all settles out and what users consider the use of the twisted pair as a solution. In the past the seat costs have really slowed down the use of this product.

Raytheon doesn't seen too pleased with the situation. Someone forwarded this e-mail to me today
Raytheon JPS Dealers and MRs,

We have learned that Twisted Pair Solutions has been acquired by Motorola Solutions. As you know, Raytheon has offered the Twisted Pair WAVE software solution along with our market leading Raytheon JPS interoperability solutions. Raytheon promoted this solution because WAVE is based on open standards and, when deployed with Raytheon JPS interoperability gateways, is designed to enable interoperability between all land mobile radio systems regardless of the manufacturer of the radio system. WAVE and JPS interoperability solutions also extend land mobile radio communications to nearly any smart device. Both of these deployment options represent a very strong value proposition to the Public Safety community.

Because the announcement of the acquisition creates uncertainty not only to the long-standing relationship between Raytheon and Twisted Pair, but also to the future direction of the product, Raytheon will reassess further promotion of this solution while we all wait for a clear strategy and direction from Twisted Pair and Motorola.

In the meantime, we will seek alternative solutions that offer similar value propositions to address the interoperability demands of Public Safety today. We will be reaching out to you, our mutual customers, and key technology providers in the industry to identify possible alternative solutions that are based on commitment to interoperability among manufacturers and open standards.

We appreciate your patience during this time of uncertainty. We will keep you informed proactively. Please know we will resolve this with urgency.
