HT1250 keypad replacement

HT1250 keypad replacement

I am replacing a HT1250 limited keypad. The housing is the old style. The keypad is a 7586175Z01. The description is "keypad with adhesive laminate". There is clear thick film around the keys and the upper part of the rubber. Do I remove the film and stick the pad to the housing or is the film there to stiffen the rubber pad and get a better click action?
