CPS pr/de emphesis AGC, etc

can someone give me a brief overview of exactly what theses options are and when they should be used? I have a basic knowledge but would like to know specifically. Ive done some searching but haven't found my answer.

Read up on FM theory to learn why pre and de emphasis are important - Wiki FM Broadcasting. In general, it is not something you want to turn off. You want it on.

AGC is useful to flatten out performance. ie: make all radios sound about the same. Done incorrectly, they can all sound bad.

While I can't explain the technical end of it, I set all my radios with pre, & de on, & AGC off. To me that sounds the best. On our Trbo system, we're trying to get all the guys to leave their AGC off, & set mike gain per DMR-MARC spec's. That way everyone will have the same gain settings. GARY

So basically it Pre and De limit the high frequency noise. From my reading it seems no one likes AGC
