CP200 Out of Range Programming

Post by 1crazymax »

I use VHF CP200's when my friends and I go hunting, ATVing, relic hunting etc. Our TX and RX is alright considering the terrain. I recently found a local repeater atop a mountain about 2 miles from my house. The amateur radio club's web site says it free to use and encourage amateurs to use it. The only problem is my CP200's are KDC radios 146-174 MHz and the repeater is 145.XXX with a negitive offset of 144.XXX so I really need a JDC CP200. I've read in several forums about changing the hexcode to change the frequency range of a radio. Is this something that could be done with a CP200 or am I just wasting my time? I had a password issue last year and downloaded a free hex reader and tried to find the password to the radio but I never really knew if I was searching in the right files, sector, memory, etc. I consider myself a beginner and learn most of what I know by reading from these forums, and replies from the members that are willing to help. I live in the Chattanooga,TN area and if what I am wanting to do is possible, and someone loacl could help I would be glad to pay for your services. Thank you for your time and thank you in advance for any replies.

it can be done, a little searching will reveal the relevant posts.

are you and your friends licensed hams? just asking, because to use a ham repeater, you and all those you are wanting to talk to have to also be licensed hams.

(I only ask this as I own two amateur repeaters in the Atlanta area)

No to be honest I didn't think about that. I was just looking at local repeaters and ran across this one listed as Open and the owner(s) stated it was free to be used by anyone and they encouraged the use. Thanks for pointing that out.
