I have a Saber III 66-88 Securenet portable and a Saber I 136-150 Securenet portable.
My stupid question of the day is:
If I want to take my VHF-Hi band components out of the Saber I and swap them out for the VHF-MB stuff in the Saber III would it be THAT SIMPLE? (Aside from reprogramming the III as a VHF-Hi and vice versa). I am talking of the synthesizer,Receiver,amplifier...etc...
Any ideas? Any laughs? Any sympathy?

Jim: I believe that there is some kind of writeup on Batlabs about converting a Saber I to a Saber III, so you may want to look there first.
I think that the way to do this is to take the shield, display, and keypad (as well as the case, of course) from the 66 mHz unit and install them on the Saber I, then reporgram the radio as a III. My memory tells me that there might be a couple of more components you need but you already own all the basic units, but the important thing is that the Saber I has the RF components you want and the Saber III has the upgrade components you need to convert the I to a III, not the other way around.

Tom's right. All you have to do is change the controller / front shield and reprogram.
I just shuffled a couple of Saber I / II / and III components to get the assortment of radios and features that I wanted and I walked away very impressed with the modular design.
Just be VERY careful with the flex circuit connectors between the front shield and the chasis. If you break one of the traces it's not much fun.....
The Batlabs Saber page is a great reference and should steer you in the right direction.

The upgrade process from a Saber I or II is the same. Put the III front shield assembly on the candidate radio and program it appropriately. That simple.
But, as for swapping the RF modules between a midband and a VHF Saber...you'd have to get the service manuals for both radios and verify that the circuit boards are the same. If they're not, you can't swap the RF modules and get a good working radio out of it, just as you can't swap UHF and VHF modules because, for one, the circuit boards are different, and for two, the physical design of some of the modules is different.
