Motorola account delay

Hello all

I'll start with an introduction, my name is Jeff and I own/run JR Electronics up on the west coast in Canada. We do component level printed circuit board repairs to a lot of different things but specializing in power supplies for telecommunications equipment and industrial controls. Radios are sort of new to us, we kind of fell into them since it seemed no other shop was repairing them and a couple of our existing customers asked us to give them a try. They were quite easy to repair, like all electronics there were a few predominate faults (worn out on/off volume controls, bad PTT switches, etc). These faults repeated and once figured out were no problem to correct. With a little advertising we're suddenly innundated with the little black boxes. :) Suddenly there are piles of Motorolas all over the shop so I started reading and browsing and came accross this board and it's instructions on how to open a Motorola account to buy parts directly.

I've been through the first set of questions and received an email:
Thank you for your patience. The Account Manager has approved the request. Your information is now being forwarded to Motorola's Customer Maintenance Team who will set you up with a 10 digit customer number, credit analyst, credit terms, etc. You may be contacted again if further information if needed or to notify you your setup is complete.
It's been a week and I haven't heard back. Is Motorola always this slow? I know it takes time to set up a new account but a week? Should I be trying to contact them or am I just being too impatient?

Yes you should contact them. Not sure if your post was a question or an advertisement. Kind of hard to tell.

Most boards I've joined over the years wanted an introduction of sorts, a little background etc. I was just trying to fill in some blanks on how I arrived here.

I'll try to contact Motorola, maybe something got dropped.

Thanks, I think I've got a ton of reading to do first, I don't want to be the new guy that asks for an answer he could have searched for.

From my reading so far I'm repairing the low end models, CLS, CLP, RDU, XTN, MagOne.

I'm lost on a lot of the stuff you pros do but I can learn so I'll keep trying to sponge up the knowledge.

One of the first things you need is a service monitor. If you want to do a proper job for your customers, you will need to do full spec checks and alignments. Setting deviations, frequencies etc.

To do it proper, there will be more to it than swapping volume controls.

PS: Don't expect too many repair parts for those model radios.

It seems like a necessary piece of gear, could a shop just starting out get away with one of the 200X models? I'm old enough to be comfortable with analogue so I don't need a computer interface.

There is a 2001C for sale for $600, a 2002 for $1K, a 2009 for $1300 and even a 2014 with a generator problem for $700.

I love buying test gear so this should be fun.
