Hello,
I have a problem with my GP340.
the volume of the radio is working normally when alerting the user about a button error, or a powerup sound.
but when it is detects the carrier with PL, I can hear the speech but the level is very low.
your help will be appreciated.

Re: GP340 low level sound
Hello
Try to install a optional mic speaker on the radio
if the level is good, you have a problem on the radio board , usually is a cold solder point or oxidation .
The point of the circuit where you have to see , for finding and fix the problem is exactly in the back of aluminium case, where is connected the battery (not the electrical connection.....you have to see in back ....of the mechanical connection ....exactly where the low - lock of the battery connect the body of the radio.....
I hope you are understand my message
regards
Alex

You didn't say what kind of a signal your trying to listen to. Is the transmission narrow banded and the radio RX is wide band?

sorry but i didn't understand you question very well
my TX and RX are both 12.5khz
thanks
Re: GP340 low level sound
Narrow band is 12.5 KHz. If you are sure your radio is set to the narrow band operation (12.5 KHZ), then I would have to point the finger in the other direction. But I will ask if you are sure your transmitter is correctly on frequency. There should be a master adjustment in your radio to slide it around some in frequency. If your off frequency some, the audio your listening to will be low and maybe distorted. People will also have an issue trying to listen to any transmission you make.
My next guess is the station your listening to doesn't have the audio from the mic deviation set correctly. In many cases when the radio shop moved everything to narrow band operation, they took the short route and just did the change in the software programming of the radio. They didn't take the time to look at it with a service monitor. This is fairly common around the country. The end users just turn the volume control up higher as they don't know any better. The radio system got changed and this is what it sounds like. Get use to it was the comments that were passed around.
Is it correct in the way it sounds? Don't know without something to compare it with. That is why the need for a service monitor to really tell you if the transmitter is working correctly or not. Having a transmitter on frequency and the transmit audio set to the correct deviation makes a huge difference in how it sounds on the receiving end.
