Jedi speaker mic - want to re-enable radio's internal spkr

Post by ffexpCP »

I am wiring an external audio source to a jedi speaker mic cable. I have the PTT and audio input all set. No issues there. Works great.

What I'd like to do now is disable whatever circuit tells the radio that an accessory has been connected and turns off the radio's internal speaker.

I'd like to use the accessory connector for input only, and let receive audio come through the radio's internal speaker.

I've tried simple troubleshooting so far including isolating pins on the connector one at a time, with no change. I've gone as far as removing a resister between pins that I thought may have been the 'trigger' circuit.

I've looked at pinouts and manuals long enough. I have a headache and can't make sense of it anymore.

Any ideas?

The switching for the internal speaker is handled by the Options Sel line on the side connector.

Unfortunately, I believe that if you remove the ground from the Opt Sel line, you will also disable the input pins along with the speaker pins...it's all or nothing. Unless the mic pins are always active...I've never tested it, but can't imagine they are.

Don't the PSMs have a switch to toggle between internal speaker and RSM speaker? Doesn't it keep the PTT capability active? Been a long time since I played with one

Not that I can recall, although I haven't seen many. The ones I've seen do have a Hi/Low volume toggle, but it's still with the RSM speaker.

Used the PSM a lot. Yes Hi/Lo switch on top, attaching PSM muted the radio speaker and switched the antenna. Radio could still be keyed directly but you had to speak into the radio, TX audio would only pass from the PSM if keyed by the PSM.
