MDC1200

General MDC1200 question:

Why is it that my MDC "sqwak" sounds different on different motorola radios? When I hear the receive on some it is a quick "chirp" and on others its receieved as a full "skwak"? When I hear the receive on my scanner it always comes out as a full skwak.

Most Motorola radios have the "DOS" feature that mutes the MDC1200 audio other than an initial brief chirp. This is a feature that has to be enabled in the radio programming or your hear the full "squawk". I an not aware of this feature being available on scanners.

k2hz got it in one. On my XTS2500 I hear the "chirp" where on the croddy testing Baofeng I hear the "skwark". I was getting the full skwark on the 2500 until I turned on DOS.

The above link shows what I have setup and where you should be looking. But if the skwark is shorter than most radios you most likely have this box ticked.
