MCX1000 DTMF MIC(VLN1017A ) for GM300?

Post by MaxK98 »

Hi there,

I was wondering if I could use an MCX1000 DTMF Microphone (Part number VLN1017A) on a GM300 (or maxtrac) mobile radio?

I read on the Maxtrac batlab page that they are almost identical but could not find pin-outs to confirm. The connector is the same but wiring colors do not match in the connector. I did not try to open up the microphone to check the connections on the board.

Do they fit? Will the DTMF get generated correctly to activate commands onto a repeater?

Thank you for the help!

I once was given a MCX1000 DTMF mike thinking it was for a Maxtrac, but the tx button wouldn't even key up the Maxtrac. The part # on the mike didn't come back to anything, but the "made in Canada" plaque gave it away. Maxtrac DTMF mikes are a dime a dozen, & cheap. GARY

They are not wired the same.
The MCX1000 page http://www.batlabs.com/mcx1000.html has schematics and mic pinout for the VLN1017A.

Wire colors should be:

Red - Mic Hi
Black - Mic Lo
Green - PTT
White - PTT Low
Blue - Monitor
