Help with 2 external spearkers & 2 mics. for maxtrac
Moderator: Queue Moderator
I am installing a 32 channel low band maxtrac with the 16 pin connector. I need a mic and external speaker in the cab for the driver and then I need to hook up an external speaker and mic. for the pump operator at the panel. I would like to know what is the best way to go about doing this. I have the pinout from this site for the 16 pin connector. I was just going to hook up two speaker in parellel to the external speaker output. I am assuming I am going to halve the ohm ratings of the speakers. As for the mics. I was just going to use an RJ45 spitter on the front connector and hook up two mics. Not sure if this will work, that why the request for help. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Mark
Your splitter idea will work for the mics, we've done it a few times for certain customers, although they've been on base stations, as opposed to in vehicles. Buy some spare splitters, as they're sure to break fairly often. The other option is to wire a mic into the 16-pin connector, which isn't hard either. Pin 7 for ground, pin 3 for PTT, and pin 2 for mic audio. As far as the speakers go, I've wired two speakers in parallel on many radios with no problems. You should go with two 8-ohm speakers, in parallel they will measure 4-ohms, which the radio can handle no problem.

Do u need both speakers on at the same TIME?
If not then a double throw double pole
switch in the cab. will work fine. Do this a lot for service vech. with outside bull horn Low ohms gives louder sound but have changed
burnt P.A.'s I do not like low ohms. In series (lower) audio but no burnt parts. 73's Ray eMail [email protected]
