I have a 1250 that is doing some strange audio things. When the volume is turned up about half way the audio sounds great. But once you go past the half way point it gets real tinny, and hard to hear. Sometimes it does this without adjusting the volume.
Our EMA director has a 750 that has the same problem. He took it back to the dealer, and they said they fixed it, but they didn't.
So... I was just curious if anybody else has run into this problem. If so how do you fix it?
Went into the RSS and turned OFF the Audio Processing Filter, and it cured the problem. Thanks everybody for the help it was greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There is a setting in the RSS for the pro series that turns on this behavior. In theory, it's supposed to increase intelligibility of the audio at high volume. As you've noticed, however, mostly it just sounds tinny and pisses you off.
It's somewhere in the radio-wide options; I'll fire up the CPS and see if I can find the exact location to give to your tech.

It's definately the audio processing filter as mentioned above. Have your local shop make sure that it is turned off. Leave pre/post de-emphasis on (sounds tinny all the time otherwise), but make sure that companding is off unless you are using a 12.5 channel where all of the other radios are using companding.
On the HT's the my old PD used, we found that leaving the pre/de emp on was good, and that the xpand off was good as well. There was some other setting that helped out as well, but off hand I cannot remember what it was.
Remember, the HT's are just toys compared to the main stream line. Also I have found out the the HT's with the older firmware have more trouble like this then the newer firmware, so check to see what verion your radio has and what the current one is.

it seems that as their product line evolves, everything is becoming a toy. They have chosen flashy marketing over rugged reliablity...Maybe they know something we don't, after all Galvin has lot more money than all of us...Then again they did post like a 2 billion dollar loss(or more, just a guess) last year. It reminds me of Mercedes-Benz and their newer cars...The public still likes them because of the three pointed hood ornament....but anyone who has driven a merceds for the last few decades...and then rides in a newer model can tell you that the quality of materials are not the same...just rounded and styled nicer...I think these companies have become too comfortable..thats business..maybe both their competitors will come along and shake things up. I know BMW is....maybe Kenwood will be the equivlant in the radio world...I have heard some good things about the progression of their product line and making 6.25khz digital UHF trunked radios, they already have a little experience form the OpenSky People. Who knows
