HT 1250 scanning problem w/audio
Moderator: Queue Moderator
I have one question regarding priority channel as it relates to scanning and audio quality.
It seems that when I have the HT1250 on scan (with a priority ch set), the scanned channels don't come out of the speaker that well.
What I mean is that if a scanned channel receives a transmission, the transmission comes out fine for the first second (or so), then the audio quality or volume is reduced.
I have tried everything and don't seem to know how to fix this problem. The audio quality / volume is probably reduced because of the radio checking the priority channel, however, it doesn't seem right.
I checked with a local Motorola dealer and they took a look at my programming. They heard the problem I was talking about but couldn't find an option to remedy it. They thought that the volume might be reduced because it was one of the scanned channels, not the primary.
Can you shoot me an e-mail if you have a remedy for this....
Thanks

I tried switching those selections and it didn't have any affect of the audio when scanning...

I disabled the "low-level expansion" with no affect on the scanning/audio situation.
I have two ht1250's and this situation is consistant on both. That's why I don't think it's defective.
It's annoying when trying to listen to a scanned station while having a "priority" channel set.
If I turn off the priority setting, the scanning/audio is fine.....

Yeah, there's been about 101 firmware upgrades for those radios, get them flashed with the latest version & see what happens. As far as the audio settings, it depends on whether or not you're dealing with a customer who's using HT750/1250s exclusively, or has them mixed with other models. Amongst themselves, the factory settings of "Low Level Expansion" enabled & "Pre/De Emphasis" enabled sounds just fine. But, throw in a few HT1000s or HT600s, and the 750/1250s then sound muffled. In these cases, disabling the Low Level Expansion seems to clear that up, although it doesn't sound quite as good amongst the 750/1250s. I've never seen a case yet where I've had to disable the Pre/De Emphasis, disabling it makes the radios sound like crap no matter what other models you're dealing with.

I had to disable pre/de emphasis when using HT1250's with EX500's. I know what you are saying, but this time it actually made it sound fuller and less muffled.....with it on, it actually sounded like it was digital, you knew they were talking, but couldn't make out what they were saying cause the words were mashed together.....almost like if you have ever heard charlie brown's teacher talking.
