I've worked for about 18 yrs. as a radio tech for a DuPont Co. site and I've come accross one that has me baffled. I've been trying to reprogram a desktrac console to different freqs. I have been using software that I originally used to program the desktrac some years ago and for some reason nothing works. I can't access the radio and keep getting the message that a rdaio must be attached and turned on !!
I have tryed to use this on several radios
and get the same thing.
Other radios program well and I have checked the cable and all things around this and I am stumped.
Does anyone have a feel for what's going on here? I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Can't access maxtrac for programming

Hi:
1st I would like to make sure you have a
good programming Rib Box ( Motorola perfered ) and a suitable cable and a Computer running @ the speed of a 386-486-25 Max.
If you have a Fresh battery, Good Power Supply, and a known good Computer platform, all you should have to do is turn the program
'selector to position 1 ( this is a small hole to the " Right " of the Digital Display,
and sometimes there is a Cover over it. Its about 3/8" wide.
You also " MUST" be using DESKTRACT Software.
Maxtrac / Radius Software will not work unless the radios personality has been changed.

I know this might be a long shot but is the RSS setup for the right com port? I have a few Rss programs that work on Com1 and one or two only work if they are set to Com2. Try changing the com ports and do a port test. I think the port test on that Rss is F3 on the setup screen but im not sure. Good luck

If the desktrac base has a maxtrac radio in it, you can program it with regular old maxtrac software.
There is a three-way switch inside the console that will allow you to read and write the radio. If this switch is not in the proper position, you will get the error you are describing.
I don't recall the position that the switch needed to be in, but I recall the center position. You can try the three combinations and see which is correct.
