Larsen LP antennas...

Post by kd6kml »

I just installed a Larsen LP series antenna for 450 on a friend's Dodge Durango. The idea was to install an antenna that his wife would not think was too unsightly. The antenna looks good and seems to work very well also. The neighboring county's Sheriff radio sounds as good on this antenna as it does on the big gain antenna on the house. I have not had the best of luck with low profile antennas before, but at least on UHF this one seems pretty good. The black color and texture of the plastic fits in well with the modern black trim on cars today.

Just my personal opinion of a product, take it or leave it...And a heads up to someone that might need an antenna like this.

Josh

P.S. My friend and his wife are on vacation right now. The wife does not know there is a radio being installed in her car. We'll see how she reacts when I pick them up at the airport!

I've been using one of these for about 3 years on a full size van, had no problems with it. No noticeable difference between a 6 inch 1/4 wave and this. Good bit of difference to a colinear antenna on the same mount at distance from the transmitter though. Their 900 MHz antenna works very well also.
