CP200 antenna adapter
I recently picked up a CP200 16 ch. UHF hand-held and was wondering if anyone knew of an after-market antenna adapter that will fit on the CP200 at one end and have a BNC female or SO-239 on the other end. I would like to be able to use a 1/4 wave mobile antenna with this radio while in my vehicle.
Thank you

HI Mike:
Well ?
That one even stumped me !
If perhaps you can send a close up of the
Radio, where the Antenna screws in, I might
be able to use that in asking the " Parts ID "
as to wether they they even make a test
adaptor.
Sorry to report, even in my Master Motorola
File, does not show a Antenna Adaptor for
that series.
Does not mean its not availible, just was not
listed in a major book that I have

"I believe you are looking for the Motorola part number 5885705M01.
This item is the same as the one for the Pro series radios."
The above two lines are incorrect as outlined by Tony in a post below.
The correct part number is supposed to be 588656Z01 as he indicated.
The info below is with regards to Pro radio adapters.
http://www.racingelectronics.com/2003cat.pdf on page 14 and 15 list this item as well as the Motorola catalogue.
Here is some added info from Motorola that describes the differences between two seemingly identical adapters. The difference is in the tips.
The dimension of the rhombic tip is not compatible to the newer radio antenna ferrule. The cylindrical tip dimension is not compatible with the older radio antenna ferrule.
There are two new RF adapters currently available. To avoid confusion these adapters also have different colored elastomeric tubing added to the housing to differentiate between the two. The details of the adapters are as follows:
Rhombic tip adapter: 5885704M01 (kit) Yellow
Cylindrical tip adapter: 5885705M01 (kit) Blue
You likely need the blue adapter because the radio came out after these differences were posted.

I just bought one of these adapters (3.5 mm smb to bnc female) from Mot for $40(ouch!). I don't have the specifics in front of me, so I'm going on memory that it's an smb....could be an smc connector. Anyway, it pushes into the radio's antenna port and clicks into place rather than screwing into a threaded bushing like the HLN9756.
If anyone wants the details, including the part number, I can check tomorrow.

HI:
Well, I do not know for sure, but this is
a photo of some of the screw in types.
The one with the stright tip is the Motorola
one

Looking at the basic Block diagram, it looks
like what ever is mounted to the PC board
would not work with the above photo
But its only a guess @ this time.
Here is a few of some of the others....the one @ the
far right came off some Spirit Radio

"I should add here that I successfully used the 5885705M01 (blue-banded model, cylindrical tip) with the CP200 radio because the CP200 uses the same antenna connector as the Pro series radio."
The above three lines are my screw up as outlined by Tony below.
To keep from getting mixed up, one of the techs in the shop came up with “Blue for New”. The yellow-banded model is for use with older Pro type radios. Motorola has a list of serial numbers (SRN-1329) on their web site detailing this.
Here is some info from this bulletin.
The HT750/HT1250 RF adapter part number HLN9756A was manufactured with either a rhombic or cylindrical tip.
When the rhombic tip RF adapter is inserted into the newer HT750/HT1250 antenna ferrule, it will deform the contacts and cause intermittent contact.
When the cylindrical tip RF adapter is inserted into the older HT750/HT1250 antenna ferrule, it will give erroneous power and sensitivity measurements, as its diameter is insufficient to fully open the RF connection. This will result in placing the radios 50-ohm test point in parallel with the antenna match.
The dimension of the rhombic tip is not compatible to the newer radio antenna ferrule. The cylindrical tip dimension is not compatible with the older radio antenna ferrule.

For those interestedRhombic tip adapter: 5885704M01 (kit) Yellow
Cylindrical tip adapter: 5885705M01 (kit) Blue
Cylindrical tip adapter: 5885705M01 is 22.66 from Motorola
Rhombic tip adapter: 5885704M01 22.56 from Motorola
not including any S & H

Nand,
You have used the Pro adaptor on a CP200? Reason why I ask is that in the CP200 manual, it shows part # 5886564Z01 for the bench antenna adaptor. The CP uses the same antenna as the Pro, but the RF jacks are different.
The adaptor pictured on the far right in Monty's picture is for the SP10/SP21 series radio, because it has no RF adaptor jack. The correct model for the CP200 is a 4.15 mm coaxial BNC.
This adaptor is priced at $40 retail, $38.40 NSO.

Yes Tony, you are correct.
Just arriving at work I found out that the connector is very different from the Pro type connector and does have the 5886564Z01 part number as indicated on page 4.2 of the basic service manual.
So please ignore some statements I made regarding these being the same as the Pro adapters. The are very different.
Also the new Pro adapter changed its coloured band to black now and comes with an additional sealing washer.

Added missing 4.

Hi:
Isn't it great to be required to have
just about as many GD Adaptors as
programming cables to address these
radios each year !
I mean, I was happy with the 2 Service
Adaptors for the HT220 Series !, and a
cable for the MX and MT500
Thank God I have one 1 year left to
go !

That right, the box these came out of had at least a dozen or more different types in it.
The rather fragile original P50 adapter now costs around $80 US. I believe the original Jedi adapter is likely also in that price range, but the quality is good.
Add to this all the different programming cables you need and every RSS that comes out, you wonder how they can afford to pay me.

Re: CP200 antenna adapter
I see many posts here. When I started my radio shop after leaving a Moto dealer in 2008, I bought a full set of portable adapters via ebay, the CP200 adapter cost me a fraction of the moto part, and the quality is nearly the same.
If it wasn't for Chinese prices and Hong Kong airmail, I couldn't afford a full set of programming cables and test adapters. Moto parts have their place in public safety communications, but I wouldn't have done things differently.
