HI:

Any SMC Professionals out there willing
to give a tech a clue as to " How : these
flat laser Vri-Trim Caps are properly
removed or serviced? These are the ones
to the far left of the PC.

Hi Monty,

Well as you've already guessed, they are
fixed in value at the factory, but if you
know the range you are looking for, here
are some part numbers:

2060510A05 trim cap .6-2.5 pF
2060510A07 trim cap 2.5-10 pF

Check your Motorola Price Book in the
20-numbers for more. I use these when
recrystalling Advisor Gold, Bravo LX and
other pagers. Removal is no problem, use
your low-velocity heat gun or iron.

Use this alignment tool: 6680381B21

Looks like you have a LB P200 VCO there.
Tuning is going to be difficult once you
have the module in there.
Tony

Hi Tony:

And thank you for the tip.

Since I do not work on Pagers, I have not
had much of a chance to address these style
of parts.

Before I load it up in the SMC removal Station with the focus head, I will assume
the trim control is faced down? In other words opposite of what is seen.

Since our favorite company did not think
persons would address service down to componet level ( I suspect they think were
all monkeys ) they did not alow a access hole
for adjustment.

Anyhow, thought I would ask, as I am trying
to stock all these smaller componets before
they make it impossible to obtain them unless
it in the form of a Kit.

You will know which side is up when you
receive the part. I'm not sure of the
process Motorola uses to trim the laser
cap, but when you unsolder it, you'll see
the other side just looks like a big chip
cap. The new tunable cap will have a tiny
square hole in the top in which to insert
the aforementioned tuning tool. They are
incredibly touchy, as you will see.

Good luck Monty,
Tony
