I today saw a maxtrac programming cable with a black 3x4" box in the middle of the wiring with a BNC female jack on the top. Is this the new version of the Motorola Service cable for these radios?

Just wondered since it looks quite like a nice "home-brew" to me, and not a usual service cable with the green booty over the pinned jack, etc....

That box only contains the connection for the mic audio wire to that BNC connector.

My first cable over 10 years ago was a Motorola cable with that box on it, and I never ever used the mic audio connection provided on the box.

I've made all the cables since and have never seen a time where it would be needed. If i want mic audio, I plug in a mic!

Ours are simmular, having a BNC connector, on a short cable from the RIB end, for the audio generator input to check and set a radio's transmitter deviation.
