Using convertacoms as x-band repeaters

Is it possible to use a pair of PAC-RT equipped convertacoms as an in vehicle cross band repeater or will I have to interface with another mobile unit?
I know the output will be low but I primarily need the extra 'oomph' from a 5/8 wave antenna over a rubber duck.
