I see a couple variations for the programming cable for the HT1000/mt2000/mts2000 cable. One cable hast the 3 pins and the other cable has more. Is the other cable just a homemade cable from a speaker mic or is there an advanced programming cable?

There are usually two cables floating around on the market that are made by motorola or 3rd parties -
1) Cable with attachments for the service monitor. These usually have more pins than even in the hacked speaker mics.
2) Cable with 3 pins in it. I don't know if you can buy this one from Motorola, but this is a very common 3rd party one since no one really makes a service cable. The Billy Joe Bob of programming could probably care less about using a service monitor, probably because they can't afford it.
That's been my observation.
