I posted this earlier in the hardware info board, but haven't gotten meaningful responses yet..

I'm looking for info on the various interface boards for dash -> remote conversion, and the differences between them..

I know of the following:
HLN6116
HLN6161
HLN6186

how interchangable are they?

The HLN6116 is for a remote cable to connect to the radio, inplace of the HLN6066.
The HLN6161 is for the 9000 series control head interconnect.
The HLN 6066 is for the control head to radio interface on the dash mount.

and the HLN 6186?

could a 6186 or 6161 be substituted for a 6116 for a simple dash->remote conversion?

According to the manuals:

HLN6066A - Clear, Low/med Power, Dash Mount
HLN6116C - Clear, Low/med Power, Remote Mount - 1 DB-25
HLN6161C - Clear, Low/med Power, Remote Mount - 2 DB-25
HLN6186C - Secure, Low/med Power, Remote Mount - 2 DB-25

You left out:
HLN6112C - Secure, Low/med Power, Remote Mount - 1 DB-25

The secure remote mount radios have different front plastic than the clear remote mount boards. The difference is for the keyloader connector.

If you use options like Siren/PA, VRS, rear control head, etc. get the remote mount interface board with 2 DB-25 connectors. The remote mount front plastic is also different depending on 1 or 2 DB-25 connectors.

Sorry I do not have any direct experience with any of the above interface boards so I can not say for sure what mixes with what.

There are more of these interface board part numbers for secure dash mount, secure & clear high power radios, secure & clear & low/med power & high power Hand Held Control Head radios, and Spectra E radios.

The part numbers for the radio remote mount front plastic are:
1580062P06
1580062P07
1580062P08
1580062P04
1580294L01 - early radios only

There is lots of confusion and contradiction in the manuals about which plastic fronts are secure/clear and how many DB-25 connectors they have holes for. You will have to sort them out yourself.
