2005 Corvette strobes

Post by Tech225 »

Ok, here's a toughy, I need to install hideaway strobes in a 2005 Corvette.
The big issue I have right now is access through the firewall. I will need to run two strobe cables and a 12g power lead. Any suggestions? Any special grounding/shielding concerns? The plan is to put a set in the backup lights, a set in the tail lights and a set in the front corner lights. I have a really good place to mount the power supply, my biggest concern is the wire routing. Thanks.

as the proud caregiver to a 73 stingray, the question pops up...do you HAVE TO put strobes in it?? :o

if you have a place to put the strobepack, then the wiring should just be connecting point a to point b.

but man, my skin crawled when i read that subj line, sorry dude.

You think your skin crawled, I thought the guy was joking. He has a 2004 right now with strobes, I guess it's the hot ticket for the shows. He's going to Bowling Green in the morning to watch his car come down the line, should have it in about three weeks. When it leaves the main plant it goes somewhere else for paintwork, then I get it. I'm not too worried about placement of the heads or the power supply, my main concern is RF interferance and a good place to come through the firewall.

My personal choice for Vettes is the 1969/73 series. I just never did get attached to the new ones. I suppose that will make it a little easier.

god that stingray line is purty....isn't it? I would still kick this guy in the junk tho, that's a abberation before god. well, i haven't crawled around the 00 series yet, so i'm not too sure about cable-snakage....but where is the powerpack going?

Well, the car is probably gonna be already pretty secure with RFI, and i wouldn't worry too much about it...not many makers of vehicles in the last couple of years have had cars that are that big-a pussy about RFI (not to mention he will primarily be operating das blinkenlighten at a carshow) and modern powersupplies are getting more and more efficient and less and less RFI from them is getting into the vehicle's electrical system.

btw...where IS the powerpack going??

Where?

There is a compartment in the right rear behind the tail light. It is above the exhaust but open on top. I'm going to mount the power supply to a 1/4" piece of aluminum as a heat sink and it will velcro down in there. Plans are to use a keyfob type remote for switching, any suggestions?
