I know of someone who has a UHF maxtrac and the recieve is by far much much better than any UHF ham radio out there. I would like to acquire a VHF maxtrac, but i've been told that a vhf maxtrac would not be as good as a vhf ham radio. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, why would it be that way?
Thankyou much!
UHV maxtrac vs. VHF Maxtrac

I have been working on radios for many years, and a HAM for 27 years. While there are some very good HAM rigs out there, and the "frequency agiliy" is nice, there is always a trade off on HAM functionality and price, VS. selectivity etc. The MAXTRAC "platform" (GM300, Radius, etc) is VERY good radio, & I use them from 48 mhz to 900mhz in all the commercial and Ham bands. Get one, I doubt you will be disappointed in the RX or TX. Only the programming is inconvenient.(I own probably 20 of them)
