MDT9100 modifications wanted

I just inherited 2 of these puppies, complete with radios. Woo hoo for me.

As my nick suggests, I am a radio scanning nut. Playing with the real thing is something new for me, so if my newbie questions are bothersome, I apologize.

With that out of the way, is there any kind of test mode I can put them into so that they will receive and decode any MDT data they encounter? I had an old radio modem that I convinced to do the same thing without too much heartache by hooking it up to a discriminator-tapped radio scanner, so I figured maybe this would work in the same manner.

An update to all of this (after deciding maybe I should be a little more adventurous and try the SEARCH function ) These are MDT9100-10 models. I read some info posted by "Data" and "2WayGuru" that sounded very similar to what I want to do, if either of you would like to either reply or PM me here that would be great.
