Dodge Ram - 1995 Install - Strobes

Post by KuhnElectronics »

I am getting ready to strobe out my new 1995 Dodge Ram. I have 6 strobes to work with. Already decided to put 4 in the brake lamps and reverse lamps.

So that leaves me with a set to place anywhere I want. Someone said headlights, but I have never been a fan of strobes in the headlights, when you have them on, it defeats the purpose of even trying to give any warning power.

I was thinking the corner marker/turn lamps, but I have smoked headlight covers, how bad is this going to look? The lamp in the marker housing will obviously drown out the strobes a bit, so I am thinking about hooking a relay up to cut these lights while my strobes are on, and of course make it turn them on when I use my turn signals (for safety). Any ideas on this, or other locations to try.

I would like to strobe the fog lights, but i think the housings are way too small, so they are getting a multipattern wig-wag flasher.

Also planning on two dual LEED led's in the back window, and one in the dash above the mirror. And if time/money grants, then a set of LEED standalones in the grille.

Just was bored and curious, thought I would see what you thought.

In regards to the fog lights... a local LE friend was issued a new Intrepid. In his dept., they get quite a bit of latitude in how the vehicles are configured. He rigged a strobe tube in to *replace* the factory fog lamp bulb (they're worthless as fog lights anyway). The damn things are so bright, you can see them over the wig-wags! Rather than doing a wig-wag flasher for them, you might consider doing something similar as an option.

Wig-wag the headlights. Strobes in headlights *suck*.

If you don't convert the foglights, go for the turn signals.

You are using a strobe pack of at least 15 watts/outlet, preferably more, yes?

I have a '01 Ram and strobed it when I first got it. Did the brake lights also, but was not satisfied with the results. Took em out and put em in the backup lights, much better. Also have strobes in corner lights up front and two red strobes behind grill--awsome. I didn't wig-wag the headlights because the strobes work fine for me. Only running 6 strobes on a 8/150 pack. Runnin led's on interior, have converted a deckblaster and dashmiser to led's and made a traffic arrow. My suggestion if you want to run strobes in the brake lights, use a 6/90 pac just for the brake lights, your gonna need all the power you can get so those will be seen in the bright daylight and over your parking lights at night. Also, lose the smoked headlight covers and strobe the corners, you'll be glad u did. What do you want, good looks or good performance?

AVFD2922, are you familiar with a campground/amusement park near Bowling Green? I went down there this summer to pick up a Ford LTD, ex-Warren County Sheriffs car for a fellow collector. It was so rusty we just left it. Still there as far as I know. You know the place?

Sounds like you know the car. It was so bad the gas tank was rusted through. It had a couple of nests of some kind of huge red wasp about 1.5 inches long also. Ever seen those critters before?

I am running a 80 watt, 6 outlet Federal power supply, so if my mental calculator is working at midnight, then almost 13 watts a strobe... so it should be pretty bright I assume. Looking for mostly strobe warning in back, and LED in front.

Well, I decided to put two strobes up front. So now I am running 6 at 80watts and I am not happy with the output at all, so it looks like I will be buying a 90w supply for the rear alone, and keep the fronts on the 80w alone.

i did away with the headlight covers, (NOT by choice, big windstorm + 80mph driving speed = flying headlight covers)

mounted the switch under the hvac controls where the diesel status lights would be, if I had a diesel.

just an update..i am taking pic's along the way, and I decided to put LEED's LED above the mirror, and a dual dashking on the dash, so hopefully it will be bright.
