vehicle-mount charger for waris radios

Post by eboe »

I'm looking at a vehicle charger (RLN5233) and it says the compatible radios are the HT750-1250. why not the EX500-600? they use the same rapid rate desktop charger (AAHTN3000_) Anybody know why they don't list it as being compatible with the EX radios?

thanks

I haven't seen the charger, but the shape of the radios are very different. Vehicle chargers need to grab the radio and hold it in place.

other than the height, i don't think the shape of the radios are all that different. like i said, they use the same rapid-rate charger and the only thing you need to do is make sure the right spacer is in for the right size battery, but that applies to both radios. ???

here's a couple links that show the charger...

Vehicle CHarger

It won't work do to the fact the ex500/600 is much shorter than the ht750/1250 thus the battery contacts would never make it to the right location to charge to my knowledge the only way to get a vehicle charger would be to use a cigarette lighter cord with your standard desk charger

i don't understand... the charging contacts on the EX radios are in the same place as in the HT radios. that's measuring from the bottom up, which is the measurement in question for a 'drop-in' charger. or am i missing something? and as said before, both models 'drop-in' to the same desk-top charger, so... ?

Again, THE RADIOS ARE NOT THE SAME SHAPE! Does that charger look like a drop in desktop charger? No. It is specifically designed to hold an HT securly in place, no an EX500 or EX600.

ok dude, relax yourself a little bit, it's not healthy to get all upset. i'm not trying to get into a shouting match.

i'm just saying, i have both an ex600xls and an ht750 in my hands right now. i realize they are not the exact same shape radio because they are two completely different cases in two completely different sizes.

the point i'm trying to make is only the height is different. it's like the ht is a stretch limo version of an ex. all the contours follow each other, just that the ex is a squashed down version. i hold the bottoms up against each other and the footprints are the same size and shape.

differences that i do see: the ex does not have the spring clip but by looking at the pics of the charger that wouldn't appear to matter. (in the one pic it looks like the ht doesn't have the spring clip either) also, the ex's ptt bezel and accessory port bezel start to flare out slightly lower than the ht. about 3/8" for the ptt and 5/8" for the acc. from the pic it appears there might be enough space around the body of the radio for that not to matter. in the pic it doesn't seem to be grabbing the radio. looks like the little bungy strap does all the holding.

i was simply wondering if anyone here had any actual experience with this unit and might have even tried it with an ex. if the only input you have is yelling, then please click on your browser's back button and leave this thread for someone else.

thank you

The reason I restated in that manner is because with multiple people telling you it is not just the battery contacts that are important, you keep saying "but the battery contacts are the same." That usually brings the -bang head on wall- response, it's nothing personal.

Logic would tell me that if the charger would work for an EX500 or EX600, they would make every effort to get you money for it (that's all /\/\ is interested in anyway). No one else has jumped in to say it will fit and I would think by now, someone would have said something. If I am wrong, I will stand corrected.

Besides the obvious (the radios being different in shape and size and not fitting in the chargers) the EX series utilizes Lithium Ion batteries whereas the Warris series uses NiCad or NiMH batteries and the chargers are'nt compatible with the different types of batteries (At least according to Mother /\/\ )

Well apparently nobody has really tried because it works fine on the EX series. You need to firmly luck the radio in place and if need be remove the two small cushion pads at the bottom of the charge well. People they are exactly the same.

Also keep in mind that a compact rapid charger for the HT750 / 1250 / 1550 WILL also work on the EX minnows.

OK, I just pulled a brand new in the box charger from inventory. I think the problem everyone is having is that the metal case is slightly hitting the radio housing. This is keeping it from making contact on the charge pins. Very easily resolved by taking a dremel tool w/ a sanding drum to the edge of the metal case at the BACK on both sides of the belt clip recess. Also the internal unit in this metal case is nothing but a compact travel charger!!!!! Once you grind off a fraction on both sides it will work 100% perfectly.
