Help - 05 Tahoe Install

Post by jeff2233 »

I'm trying to keep this radio install as hidden as possible. So even though I love the sound quality of the Motorola external speaker, I'd like to utilize the stock door speakers for the radio instead. Whats the easiest way to do this ? Also, on the 05 Tahoe, which wig-wag headlight flasher do I need to use with DRL's ? And lastly, I'm looking for the 800 mhz undercover antenna that goes on the inside of the window and appears to be just a black square, no mast or anything on the outside. Any help would be appreciated !

Just put the external speaker under the dash. I do alot of installs that way and experience little distortion. I normally find a spot under the driver's side dash to secure it depending on the vehicle. Most vehicles have enough room for 2-3 speakers. I have 2 under the dash of my F250 and when I was doing alot of work for government agencies, they all wanted there speakers under the dash, as a matter of fact the installation guidelines for certain ones specified it.

Much better than trying to do the door speakers.

Using the stereo speakers for the radio has a distinct problem: You are likely to be driven nuts by the incoming PL tone while others are transmitting.

That PL tone is "subaudible" by virtue of its low frequency. Problem is, stereo speakers are made to cover a much wider range of frequencies than communication speakers. So while you may not hear it now, you will if you do what you suggest.

I know in a Monte Carlo I helped with, we took out the factory radio and put the speaker into the dash that way. Then you put the factory radio back and you could hear it fine and it was very hidden. On the antenna, I have noticed that 1/2 of GM products have a Glass mount ,for OnStar is my guess, on them on already so that would not be noticable to men or the common man. On the wig-wag's, just order the one for the tahoe, there will be an extra relay that needs to be hooked to the DRL's. It will turn them off and not cause damage to the lights.
Good luck.
