I've just recently purchased an almost new R1225 VHF repeater. I checked with the previous owner to find out what version of RSS was used on it for programming, and he stated 3.1, which is the same as I have. The programming computer being tried is a Toshiba satellite T75 75mhz AST laptop, running win 95. The computer and RIB work fine talking to my jedi series radios, but when tried on the repeater, it comes up with "Radio is not active". i also checked out the cable, and it's made to specs, got good continuity, and it worked on my maratrac fine when I still had it.
Unplugging the battery from the rib, the RSS reads "Rib is not active", so it appears to be recognizing the RIB, but upon trying to read the radio, the bar @ the bottom will move about a 1/2 inch, pause, then come up with the error. Any further attempts immediately bring up the error, until the radio is power cycled. Once a read is attempted, the buttons on the repeater won't work either until the unit is power-cycled. The repeater is currently programmed with HAM freqs.
HELP!!!

Rick...
Try accessing the service section of the RSS on the tool bar. You can also try the setup part where you can do a com test and see if it times out. I think the last version of RSS I used was 3.1, had only a few issues with the repeater locking up. Try booting the RSS with the RIB plugged in but the radio NOT powered up. When the RSS is ready, turn on the radio then do a read. Sometimes the radio and the RIB lose sync or something and cause exactly the problem you describe. I used both Polaris and Moto RIB and saw the same thing every once in a while. Can't say with another aftermarket RIB. I did use a homebrew cable though....

Had a simmular problem with windows RSS, the RIB has to be plugged into the computer. If you go from one windows program to the RSS, the comm port may not be correctly setup by windows... you get the result you describe. I get no comm port, seems the previous windows program would not release the comm port.
REBoot windows from scratch and select the RSS first, the comm port should be good. WFM

I'm having the exact same problem on an M1125. When I try to read it, the software says the radio is not active, but after I try the read the radio seems "locked up" (buttons don't work) until power is cycled. In addition, when I try the Comm Test, the radio beeps and the display flashes, but the Comm Test fails and the radio locks up. I'm not sure what version of RSS it was originally programmed with. If I'm trying to program it with an older RSS version than what it was originally programmed with (I'm using 3.1), would that cause this problem, or is it a hardware problem? I'm using a homebrew RIB, so that could be the problem, or it could be an RSS version issue...just trying to determine which it is. I know, get a Moto RIB you'll say...maybe I will but I'm first trying to determine if that is part of the problem or not. The homebrew RIB works fine with GM300s.
Back to my question...would having an old RSS version cause this problem or is it hardware related?
Thanks in advance,
Andy
