HT750 "Containment Kit"...?
Does anyone know what the Containment kit does for the HT750 or Waris series? What new versions have the containment kit. I thought I knew of most of the options but I'm kind of lost on this one....
Thanks

"Containment Kit" is not an option, but rather the fix for the intermittent power shutdown that affects all but the newest Waris series radios. The problem didn't happen to all of them, but to the ones that had it it was a nuisance.
Basically it involves the latest firmware upgrades, a change of a capacitor and a different gasket around the battery contact block.
If you see a Waris radio with a blue gasket around the contact block, then the unit has had the containment kit done.

The cap is a tantalum, 33uF part # 2311049A96. It is placed at C123, where it used to be 10uF.wavetar wrote:Interesting. Is there a kit# for the capacitor & gasket?

The gasket is 3280534Z02.
The pieces are ordered separately, there is no "kit" number yet. But for the radios that I have fixed for this complaint, it seems to do the trick.

Excellent, thanks. Let me guess, you read this in one of those handy announcements you get at MOL that us poor Canadians don't seem to receive at all...like the 1225 RSS upgrade, like the CM/CP400 LTR upgrade, etc, etc.Tony Soprano wrote:The cap is a tantalum, 33uF part # 2311049A96. Oh, this is much better. There has been no announcement to date about it.
Look at some of your Elgin Depot worktickets on Waris radios you send in. Usually they will mention the containment kit on it if they do it. But usually they don't tell you what parts they used for it.
One came back with the part numbers for the containment kit parts on it. To date, it was the only one I have seen. Total price for the parts is less than a buck. If the contacts are in good shape, I leave them, but if they are bent up or have carbon on them I replace them too.
Not sure why there has been no announcement. Maybe they are waiting to see if this is the best and final fix for it. All new Waris radios have it, so it looks good.

Quite possibly. If you look at the battery contacts on the radio, they look very much like the contacts that were used on the old Motorola flip phones...which were notorious for making poor contact with the batteries.fire-medic8104 wrote:Is that intermittent problem, where sometimes if the radio is shaken, it powers off and back on?
A large percentage of the time, a light cleaning of the battery contacts both on the radio & on the battery with either a small fiberglass brush (love those) or pink pencil eraser will rectifiy the problem for a few months or more, depending on where the radio is used. Even if the contacts don't look dirty, oxidation of the contacts can cause the problem.
There are a few however which seem to exhibit the problem even with cleaned contacts, new batteries, whatever. Thankfully, I don't come across them often, but these are the ones I'm interested in fixing with the kit.

My UHF HT1250 has worked flawlessly since I got it a year or so ago, and a couple days ago when I had the radio clipped to the console of my truck I t-boned a woman at 45MPH. The radio stayed in place but it repowered itself and the display went blank a couple times right after the accident, it's been working just fine since then.
