Hooking up an external repeater controller to an MTR2000 is doable but not as easy as, say, a Quantar; I recall that Zetron has an AppNote on this and also sells a premade cable for simplifying the necessary connections. You then have to reprogam the machine to run in "base station" (versus "repeater") mode, defeat internal PL, and a few other things.
