NiMH charging

Post by Tom in D.C. »

A while back I got about eight NOS NTN7014A Motorola NiMH batteries, and they all still had the green sticker on the front. The sticker said to fast charge them initially, so take that for what it's worth.

The 4734 is a rapid/fast charger that will do a good job for you. The portapocket however is a slow charger, and from all that's been said on the subject here previously I would bet that the slow charger
will only bring the batteries to about 90% of capacity.

Saber charger

Post by MRFLASHPORT »

Batman,

The NTN4734A works great on my Multiplier NiMH batteries! I've been using one for over 6 months and the batteries still hold a good charge.

No problems what so ever! I think it works better than some of the newer chargers that Motorola has come out with.

NimH Batt's and Saber

Post by syslinkcompaq »

On the same topic of saber batteries.....We have six analog secure moduled saber IIs and IIIs that are running on NiMi bats from Multiplier and they will not keep a charge nor work much over 4 hours of moderate use...They are of the higher capacity type, can't recall off hand exactly, but they should do better I would think...We use the standard motorola quick chargers and the Moto multi-6 bay charger overnite....One of the batteries I must admit is a lower capacity motorola NTN7014A that won't keep up for an hour or two...Not really worth the trouble....
On the other hand, we have two old 99 channel mt-1000 with the short W&W Maufacturing NiMi [HC-060NM-4822M to be exact] that hold their charge for two to three days of off and on use....I realize these do not have the des-xl modules to keep alive, but surely there are some non motorola bats that are worth using.
Any suggestions on the W&W saber bats for these or should I go on to motorola for our bats? Thanks for any replies..

Sounds like you might be over charging the batteries in that charger. From what I've read, the rapid charger can kill a battery if left on for too long.

We use Multiplier 1500mah Nicads on our MTX9000 and we are getting 20 hours on a new set. I can just wonder how long a 2700mah battery would do on my Sabers? :)

W&W seem to have a bad reputation on this board, especially with the fit on the saber.
