Can a systems 9000 (spectra) siren be used with an Astro Spectra mobile?
Any cabling issues? Pinout changes, etc?
Thanks

No. The siren boxes are backward-compatible, but not forward-compatible. An HLN1185E (looks the same, says ASTRO on the front) is required to interface to an Astro Spectra.
Check out eBay - they seem to go pretty cheap.

Same here. Same siren unit I have had on 3 radios. Analog A4, Analog A9 and an Astro W9...

Now you guys have me thinking. I have a B revision here that I'll have to test with my W9. I'll report back tomorrow.

It may work, but it will work weird sometimes. I too had a B rev. that I used with an Astro mobile, and it usually worked OK. It does really strange things if you try to use it with the DEK box. I upgraded to the HLN1439 (I think) so I can use it with my HHCH and a DEK box siren.

You might go back and search on here - I remember some items about this. Seems like moto's sirens are like cars - don't want to get one built on Friday, or the Monday after a holiday... <G>
IIRC, it seems to be the DEK unit as much as anything else. I thought someone posted that the siren unit needed to be a 1185 "D" model or later, and the DEK needed to be a 1241 "C" or later. Or versa vice...
But anyway, there is a combination that won't work, and one that will on the Astro.
Phasers on stun, good luck, Kirk out...

Well, I tried it. Now I need to find a permanent mounting location for it.
The 1185B siren unit worked with my Astro Spectra without any problems. I no longer have a DEK to try it with, so I just controlled it from the W9 control head.
The same unit worked previously with a C7 Spectra too. Wen I threw a DEK in the mix though, they didn't play well at all. (see this thread:
