Both the radios and the base station must support the feature in their respective software packages, and as far as I know this feature (in Motorola radios) is strictly limited to the 'SmartZone' trunking systems or similar hardware (someone else please check me on that?)

'Radio Disable' was never a feature in MDC signaling that I was aware of.

You would probably do better speaking to your local Motorola rep about this (assuming you plan to go with the Big M).

Happy hunting.

Selective radio inhibit certainly is a part of the MDC1200 design - not only that but it was part of MDC600 before that.

To set up a system to use it you would need a fixed end device - console or remote [e.g. T5620] that has the ability to send the selective inhibit and re-enable commands plus you would want to chose mobile / portable products that support the feature.

Then you should verify that you have everything programmed properly by testing the feature with one of each product and programming template combination.

Here is a list of some of the MDC signal types:

* UNIT ID [PRE]

* UNIT ID [POST]

* EMERGENCY ALARM

* EMERGENCY ALARM ACKNOWLEDGE

* REPEATER ACCESS

* REMOTE RAC ENABLE

* REMOTE RAC DISABLE

* RADIO CHECK

* RADIO CHECK ACKNOWLEDGE

* CALL ALERT

* ENHANCED CALL ALERT

* VOICE SELECTIVE CALL

* CALL ALERT ACKNOWLEDGE

* SIMPLE STATUS

* SMART STATUS

* EXTERNAL SENSOR STATUS

* STATUS ACKNOWLEDGE

* STATUS REQUEST

* STATUS RESPONSE

* INBOUND MESSAGE

* INBOUND MESSAGE ACKNOWLEDGE

* REMOTE MONITOR

* SELECTIVE RADIO INHIBIT

* SELECTIVE RADIO INHIBIT ACKNOWLEDGE

* SELECTIVE RADIO INHIBIT CANCEL

* SELECTIVE RADIO INHIBIT CANCEL ACKNOWLEDGE

* REQUEST TO TALK

* REQUEST TO TALK ACKNOWLEDGE

* REQUEST TO TALK GRANT [Permission to PTT]

you can install the transcrypt encryption boards in them and disable the radio over the air.

Radio stun/inhibit/disable..

Post by AEC »

Two other companies that are less costly than Transcrypt also make add-on boards that will suit your needs are:

Spectrum Comm

Midian...ANI, DTMF, Encrypted/rolling code with OTAR/stun/inhibit.
I like Midian due to their fast response to install questions and they will ship warranty items the same day you call them.

Since Transcrypt bought E.F. Johnson, their products have expanded as their prices have as well. They are good products but overpriced in my view. Small shops can't justify spending 3 times for a Transcypt board for what I can get a Midian board for.

There are others that provide similar boards, but I do not have that info at my fingertips at this particular moment.

Give Midian a call, I think you'll agree with me on their professionalism!

Doesnt the crummy new HT1550/CDM1550 have the ability to stun/revive radios on a system? or maybe that was only emergency decode. Some clarification would be good.

according to my cdm1250 book, it has selective inhibit, So i would have to guess that the 1550 does as well. Dont know about the ht series though.

They CDM1250 / HT1250 can RECEIVE a radio inhibit and become inhibited. They can't send it though.

You are thinking of emergency decode. Neither unit can send an MDC inhibit....that would mean Motorola would lose out on sales of it's MC2000/2500 (and other) consoles!

If radio inhibit was available on portables and mobiles it would also mean that almost any idiot could program their radio for it and run around randomly stunning radios. Imagine if some knucklehead decided to set up a radio on the local police system and start killing every ID that they saw.

At least needing a console of some form adds some financial and logistical challenges to the process.

Doesn't the "revive" command have to be sent by the same ID that inhibited the radio? If so, imagine what would happen if you didn't know the ID of the unit that was doing the inhibiting.

Do wildcard rules also apply to radio inhibit? That could get ugly fast.

I haven't had the nerve to try that. Can you imagine... Inhibit FFFF.

I sit corrected, xmo! Thanks much for the added info. I had no idea the feature was built into MDC...

i re-programed the radio.

We have MDC1200 radio inhibit working on a fleet of CDM/HT1250 radios.
We send the inhibit code from MC2000 desk remote.

Dynamic Reprogram Group, is a trunked inhibit feature only. You may be able to revive a radio, but unless you have permission to I wouldn't. First you need a valid radio ID, most Public Safety radio systems work in that only radios loaded into the system will work, all others won't. Commercial systems are the opposite, only radio ID's removed won't work all others do.
More on DRG, the system admistrator has the capability to reassign a radio to a group that can be used if the radio ever falls into the wrong hands such as a hostage situation. Hostage negotiators then can talk to the officer or whoever has the radio with no interference. Also they won't be able to get any intel off the radio since it no longer recieves on the group it was originally on.
