Mounting of Head Unit

Post by edmscan »

I am looking for some suggestions for mounting the head of a two way radio (the radio is in the trunk)

I was looking at the SDI 5000HDK or 70002-5 but they are discontinued.

Basically it is just to be mounted on the transmission hump of a 87 Honda Accord. (As it is a standard I only have about 6" of space)

The standard mounting bracket has a flat bottom and about 7" wide ...

Any help would be appreciated. :)

I found a picture of one with an automatic in it on GIS so I have a point of reference. It looks like you've actually got plenty of room to put it on the hump. It's ok if the bracket hangs off sligly on each end, preferably more to the passenger side as you dont want your foot / leg getting caught on it while you're driving. Another option is to mount it from the actual console under the cigarette lighter area. Just be careful in either case to not go through any wiring harnesses. I dont think you'll have a problem on the hump in the honda, but a lot of vehicles I've been running into lately run wiring in the space between the dash and the console surrunding the shift lever.
