What radios do you own?: I can't enter that much....

Am I understanding you correctly that the radio always scans, and doesn't stop scanning and go into monitor when you don't have the mic plugged in? If so, some people have been known to jump the HUB line inside the radio, so that the radio always thinks the mic is on hook. Try pressing the monitor button, and see if it acts as if the mic was 'unracked'.

I am confused as to what is happening too.
Yes, someone could have put a jumper in the head.
Also, I had one that took a voltage spike on the hook line, there was a shorted device, been a long time, but with the schematic you could trace (and measure to ground) the hook line on the logic board.
Does the monitor light go on and off when you hang up the mic?
Read this, and tell us more;

What do I need to do,to make the radio think that the mic is always on the clip?I have a Maxtrac that stays on monitor,even if the mic is on the clip and will not scan.We need PL tones on at all times(bad bleedover).I would love to do this,if possible.

Jordan, does your mic have a 'solid' hang-up button on the back, or is there an insulator between the actual button and the metal 'disk' around it? If it has the solid button, it is looking for ground. Is the mic clip grounded? If it has the 'two-piece' button, it is looking for the button and surrounding disk to be connected together. Let us know about that, and we'll go from there.

From another post:
kcbooboo wrote:I routinely remove the mike/volume board from the front panel and solder a piece of wire across the mike jack from pin 3 to pin 4. This shorts out the MONITOR switch circuit so the radio thinks the mike is always hung up.
And...
kcbooboo wrote:The pin3 and pin4 references are on the 8-pin MIC jack on the board that it's soldered onto.

The equivalent pins on the 13-pin connector that comes from the front panel and plugs into the logic board are 10 and 13.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.
