Has anyone tried to use a Moto Visar on packet radio for ham use?
I took apart one of my mics and tried to make it at least receive
data. I'm able to do it with my scanner.... I noticed a few smd
components in the mic on a pc board. Not sure what all of that
is...looks to me like a few caps, resistors, and a transistor not
wired like a transistor.....the collector and emitter are tied together...
Thanks for any help.

- What radios do you own?: iPhone, Blackberry, HT220
I can help you with that. Packet is coming of age with higher speed internet. What type of TNC are you using (is that what you are refering to by kantronics?) What mode are you trying to operate in? Visar would make a neat little transceiver for packet. I think the place you are trying to find is the descriminator audio point. Anyways talk to you later

I guess I'm just trying to get packet radio...new to this.... I was sitting near my workbench trying to decide what to do next when I thought the radio "might" be filtering or messing with the audio since my Radio Shack scanner works fine with the TNC and the Visar does not... Now that I've seen your post and also remember some radios do mess with the audio requiring to "tap" before the filtering to get un-altered audio for decoding.
I have the old Kantronics KAM unit with firmware around 3.XXX. I'm trying to find the bin file to flash the eeprom to 6.1 if possible. I just canceled my order for a Kenwood dual-band HT due to it not doing DPL. My plan was to ditch the Visar for a real ham radio but now I'm back to the Visar.
Thanks for your time.
