MCS2000 Repair...?

Post by GradyMedic »

Is anyone on the board here a Motorola repair tech?

I, being the genious that I am, went to power up one of my MCS2000s today, and accidently reversed the polairity going into the radio.
Now, ofcourse it won't power up, so I popped the cover off of it and opened the back to find that delightful smell, and one obviously burned diode and God knows what else...

Anyone one interested/able to help with the repair, before I support the local radio shop AGAIN?

In fact, if someone is interested in the repair, I also have another MCS2000 that needs the gold finger in the Mini UHF connector replaced. It pulled out/got stuck on the antenna coax end... So....

I have *two* repairs I need to farm out...

any takers...?

Thanks

Not for nothing...

Try Depoting it.

$300-$400, and you'll get a complete tune up, etc, unless they decide it's physical damage (in which case they may or may not).

The MCS's have layerd boards and much more processor side stuff, surface mount stuff, etc, that it probably is not worth the time and money of most people to fix -- I don't even think most dealers fix them unless they do straight up board exchanges.

It may be your best bet.

PM me, I can most likely fix them. I won't charge you for what I cannot repair.

Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
