Is this a Saber Transmit Disable Mod????

Post by bwigg »

Hello to all,

I have run across what appears to be a mod to disable the transmitter in a Saber III that I picked up on Ebay. The mod consists of a SMD transistor added to the pin 1 of the PA module. One leg is soldered to pin 1 of the PA module which is RF in and the other is connected to ground. The third leg has a wire running to R201. Also Q201 is missing from the board. From my quick exam it looks like they are shorting pin 1 to ground in TX. I haven’t traced the mod in depth yet, so it could be something else.

I looks like a factory mod. Has anybody seen this before? I bought the radio for parts, so it isn’t a big problem. I was just curious about this mod.

What radios do you own?: What's a radio?

It's not a mod that I have ever seen and I don't know of any reason to prevent the radio from transmitting unless you wanted an expensive scanner. If thats what someone wanted just program all the channels blank in the transmit side.

All you have to do to a channel to prevent transmitting is to enter a b for the tx frequency. You do not need to mod the radio.
