MTX-8000: Will B-7's 15 Key LCD work with B-5 6-key Radio ?

Post by Leadenwah »

I like the Limited 6 Key Pad on the MTX-8000 B5. Can I use the NTN-7153 (6 key LCD assembly ) on my B7 MTX which uses the NTN-7154 ?

I never use the DTMF pad, just the migration arrows and "HOME" key.

I don't mind cutting the rubber key membrane to fit, but does the Firmware prevent me from swapping the 15 key for the 6 key assemblies..or the reverse ?

Thanks,
Geo.

Yes, you can do this. But you have to reprogram the radio to think that it's a B5. One way is to use lab and force a B5 codeplug into the radio. The other way is to use lab and modify the options that make the full keypad into a limited keypad.

If you have access to lab rss, shoot me your email address in a PM and I will email you screenshots of what to change. This is the best way as it keeps your tuning and previous programming in-tact.
