MT2000 doing quickcall 2?

Post by firefighter2000 »

Theres an MT2000 on ebay now that the seller claims will to singletone & quickcall 2. Is that what will activate our pagers? I was under the impression that none of the jedi series were capable of doing this. The following is part of the item description:

Motorola VHF MT2000, 136-177Mhz, Model# HO1KDH9AA7AN. CONDITION---------LIKE NEW!! ************RADIO HAS NEWER FIRMWARE ALLOWING FOR NARROW BAND VHF FREQUENCIES***********This unit has a 160 channel capability plus zone/mode programming, MDC signalling, SINGLETONE, QUIK-CALL II, GE STAR, DTMF Phone patch capability and user programmable scan lists. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AN AWESOME PIECE OF HARDWARE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND OTHER PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICIALS AS WELL AS THE COMERCIAL USER AND HAM RADIO OPERATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. These are just a few of the features this radio has as there are many more. Most of the features can be accessed directly from the front keypad by setting up a menu list to select from.

Is this correct? Will this set off our pagers(minitor 2-4's) Thanks for the help.

Never seen an MT2000 that will ENCODE (as in SEND) QCII but most newer ones will DECODE (as in RX) QCII.

If you want a radio that can send QCII as well as MDC and DTMF signalling I would say an HT1250 or HT1550 would be a good choice.

You could program the two tones for your pagers into the MT2000 Singletone system. Then activate each tone separately from the side buttons. I have done this in a pinch. The Maxtrac radios will encode QC2 properly.

Just remember that QCII was optional in the MT2K. Most that I've programmed DON'T have QCII.

I've never seen one that just came with it. The HT1000 came with everything under the sun by default. I think the MT2000 comes with whatever the buyer originally requested and paid for.

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

Lets not confuse the MT and MTS, they are similar but 2 different animals. The MTS can be ordered with whatever options the original buyer requests. QCII is an option, and is included in the H169 flash. I have had a few upgraded with that option for FD use, and it also includes a firmware update too. The MT2000 on the other hand will do full signaling features if it has firmware above R02.00. It will then come standard with MDC, QCII, GE Star, and so on without requesting these features. I believe the MT2000's under version R02.00 only had MDC, and are not upgradeable to the best of my knowlege.

Thanks,

My version 1.xx MT2000 does not have Quickcall.

I tried dumping in a codeplug from a later version but even though the RSS said I had Quickcall, the radio refused to unmute on a valid set of tones.

Looks like the firmware would have to be upgraded in order to use Quickcall. Probably not the easiest thing to do with an MT vs an MTS.

True my orginal MT2000 did not have QCII. When it got a Depot repair it got a new controller with updated firmware. It is 2.? and now does QCII. So basically you need an newer controller. Any very cheap MT2000 for sale that I have seen is this older firmware.
