Spirit (SV10) Case Removal

Post by fogster »

I picked up a Spirit SV10 (gray VHF rig) a few days ago.

The thing's filthy. What does it take to pop the casing off of one of these, so I can soak it in something to clean it? Do you need the orange case removal tool?

The case removal took makes it easier but you can do it with 2 screwdrivers. While holding a pry on the 2 finger looking things in the battery compartment the whole guts will push up and out throught the top.

Does having a PL board change things? There's a couple little 'dots' sticking up through the board, holding it in place.

Also... How much force should I be using? I'm pushing/pulling up fairly hard, and it's not budging. I don't want to overdo it and break anything either, though.

Do I need to (can I?) take off the PTT button / accessory cover? (I "opened" the accessory flap on the right. Do I need to rip the thing off?) I've got the two tabs pried, but it's not moving.

Don't have to remove the accessory cover it's attached only to the housing. Comes apart same way whether there's a PL board or not, when
the guts are pulled out of the housing the PL deck will unplug and remain in the housing.
The latching mechanism that keeps the guts in the housing are in those 2 fingers, I've done it a bunch of times with the two screwdrivers, just gotta finesse those 2 tabs a bit while pulling the guts out, I usually do the pulling on the antenna, crude but it works.
The plastic tool works well, it positions the tabs just right and you then
push on the tool to slide the housing off (don't need to pull the antenna).
