Programming with CPS / ASTRO Conversion

Post by USGOVTECH »

I get an error when trying to program an astro portable

it says RADIO AND CODEPLUG FEATURE SET DO NOT MATCH. How can I program my radio with edited data. I can read and write with version 9 but thelatest CPS willnot allow for me to write to radio. However I can read the radio just fine.

We're seeing this on our radios that come back from the depot. Can't program or clone in a saved codeplug - even a codeplug that was saved from the radio before it was sent off. We're having to read the radio, enter in all the information & then program it. I don't know why.

I saw an SRN related to the CDM series Mobiles. I guess it relates to Astro also.. and they don't know it.

Newer version software solves it. 6.06 in the case of the CDM's

I just want to clarify your situation. Did it just come back from the depot? Is this the first time you have used CPS on it? Are you saying your read it with CPS and then you immediately turn around and try to program the radio with what it is was JUST read with and it wont take?

The Depot ALWAYS uses the latest CPS available, so if you don't have the latest CPS, you will not be able to program the radio.

A codeplug was forced into the radio using dos software, version 9.05 reads and writes to the radio just fine however the latest CPS will only read the radio. Willnot allow to write to the radio?????

Sounds to me like the forced codeplug doesn't match the feature set of the radio and dos is allowing it to be read and wrote to but the cps is seeing the error and saying its a no no to write to. I am curious does cps bring up any errors when you read it?

Was a codeplug or s-rec forced into the radio?

No errors are being reported when radio is being read with CPS.

Did the radio ever have a codeplug or s-record forced into it with LAB, to your knowledge? I have heard of similar problems with the MTS2000 CPS if a codeplug was LAB forced, while the DOS continued to work fine. Likely something to do with the internal & external codeplugs not matching up.

I am sure the last couple posts have this correct; I have done this, myself, while experimenting or for fun. You use the old lab to force in that big fat "Nick" flashcode, just to play with it. DOS RSS reads/writes the radio just fine. But tyhe CPS actually checks the installed codeplug (and flashcode) against a register somewhere in the radio, where the factory flashcode is "remembered". The CPS sees that the radio now has a different flashcode, and so gives you this error that the "features do not match."

Solution: fire up the old lab and force the correct codeplug back into it, and then your CPS will work with it, OR, just stay with DOS RSS R9.

It seems that any radio that is flashed with version 6.01 or higher automatically adds "Q446 - Channel Announcement" to the flashcode. We are seeing this on all ASTRO25 radios, including the mobiles, even though they do not have that feature in them. Not sure what is different with them yet.

only solution is to read the radio, and open 2 copies of CPS, drag and drop the data from it into the one read out of the radio.

then save BOTH

thanks moto!

i now have to have 2 codeplugs for each type of radio/agency, one for the old firmware and one for the ones that have been flashed. Its been a real PITA
