What it the actual differences between a KMA and a KXA dash mount Spectra?
Other than the programming changes, moflags, what if any hardware changes have to be made to a dash mount Spectra?
That is, what boards differ between them, control head, interconnect, command, etc..
I have a Non-Secure dash mount Spectra with an 6.15 MLM and it works perfectly. Just looking at the possibility of putting the securenet in this one. I realize it requires the carrier board and hybrid but don't know what if any hardware changes are necessary. Bit banging and programming is not a problem.
Spectra Secure Capable VS. Non-Secure, differences??

They are basically the same depending on which Secure board is used. There are external boards that are in housings that plug into a plug on the bottem front, interface board, of the dash mount. The other is in the radio. The internal also requires the Securenet control head interface board for key loading thru the mic jack. Heads may be different also.
Just a bit change to get it to enable in the RSS, the one chr. in the model number. Check Mike Blendermans site for more info.
I have several that are Secure models and do not have encription boards, the work fine until the Securenet is Enabled in the RSS. Then no audio.

I was thinking about going with the internal board. What control head board is needed to allow keyloading from the mic jack? My A7 enhanced head has the keyloading pins in the mic jack, does that mean i have the correct head? The interconnect board is also the newer style HLN6285.

I've got, in front of me, a factory D44KXA A5 radio. When I got it, it was completely stock from the factory, 100% unmolested, and contained a HLN6000B carrier board and a TRN6777B hybrid, which I believe is DVP-XL. I could enable Securenet and assign it to a button on the control head, but wouldn't lose audio until I hit the Secure button. I always assumed this was due to it not containing a key, but I'd very much like to know if there's some hardware crippling involved too. The control head interconnect board is a standard HLN6285A and the only part # I could find on the control head board itself is 8480251R06. I do know for a fact that it is an advanced control head. The other $1,000,000 dollar question is, is all the ancilliary hardware (control head, interconnect, etc) common to all encryption variants, or does DES/DES-XL require different hardware?
Also FYI, the VHF/UHF radios take the HLN6000B secure carrier board, whereas the 800 radios take the HLN6202A board. The secure hybrids themselves are interchangeable between all bands.

I was wondering a similar thing, that is, what control head boards work for keyloading? Otherwise my command board, which i think all do, has the header for the secure carrier board.
Anyone with a secure capable dash mount willing to get the number off their control head PCB and interconnect board so i can compare?
I assume the command board should work either way.
The 8480251R06 number is the part number. Look for a white label on there with a model number, on one of my radios it was just under one edge of the black plastic spacer that gets screwed on the back of the PCB.
