Ok, I am an idiot.

How do you remove the Astro Saber case?

Loosen the two "spanner" nuts on the bottom. Do NOT loosen the other screws on the bottom. Once the spanner nuts are loosened, grasp the antenna and pull the radio out of the case.

Loosen up the two "nuts" on the bottom that have split flathead screwdriver design on them. You can get yourself the real bit to do it but a small pair of needlenose pliers work just fine. After you have those loosened up pull the frame out by pulling on the antenna (yes it even says that in the service manual).

The frame will slide out of the case then.

Be careful when reassembling the radio not to overtighten the spanner nuts. I can't recall what the book torque spec is for these, but it is surprisingly low. The spanner bits are included in most sets of "high security" fastener bit sets.
