As the topic says, how do I make a B4 into a B5 or B7? I have a VHF radio that I would like to convert.

I'd give up on it now, really.

First, what's the firmware version of your MTS? If it's greater than 5.42, you're outta luck regardless because of the toolproofing issue.

Even if it's less than 5.42, you can't convert the B4 controller into a B5/7 & expect the front display to work, there are component differences which won't allow it.

So, in short, if you already have a 48 channel MTS2000 B4, you gain nothing in the conversion...and you actually lose the use of your top display.

Todd

Seeing as how this is this 1st time I've asked this question, I don't see how your snide response was warranted.

Thanks for your input though, it was helpful. (And I'm being sincere)

What was snide about that response? Your question was answered honestly and completely.

If honesty is snide, we're all in trouble.

You can swap from a top display to a front display with full keypad,if you flash the radio with 2100 series firmware! In this case, toolproof is no issue.

WTF? What part exactly of giving you an absolutely correct response is snide?

And how does this overcome the HARDWARE differences between the top display controller and a front display controller? Reflashing a radio won't make new hardware magically appear. As Wavetar pointed out, the toolproofing issue aside, it's a fruitless effort.

I meant the first part, "I'd give up on it now, really". That I believed was somewhat snide. The rest I took as valuable information.

However I have always RESPECTED and APPRECIATED Todd's (Wavetar) responses, help & advise.

So Todd, if I pi**ed you off or anyone else for that matter, I apologize. I still do appreciate all the info you supply to Batlabs and it's fine members, and I want to put this thread to rest before it's moderated.
