What is a commport microphone?

Post by wa2zdy »

Found on ebay: NTN1625A CommPort Microphone for Jedi. What are these? The pic isn't clear but they look "interesting."

Thanks.

They're expensive, that's what! :D

I think they're close to $400 brand new.

Seriously, it's basically an ear mic. Unlike a conventional microphone, which picks up vibrations from air, an ear mic senses speech vibrations travelling through your ear canal. As a result, a Commport doesn't pick up much surrounding noise etc in noisy environments.

Thank you for that info. I was sort of thinking that, but the same sale shows the ear mics too. I wish I had use for an ear mic, they seem very cool. But I really don't need to have an earpiece in my ear the few times I am out with a radio and on HF ham I use only CW, so . . .

Oh well, fun and good to know at least. Thanks again!
