What radios do you own?: APX V/7 & V/U Liberty

Okay, I have a brand spankin new HT1550 from Moto. It is UHF and it has a "hiss" in it during receive, all channels and even when the sound is down all the way just before it would shut off.

Tried two different antennas, stub and whip. Still there.

My HT1250, with the same antennas has no "hiss" during receive like the 1550.

Tried the companding on & off no difference.

Any direction would be great.

Thanks!

Nexrad and I received our HT1550s UHF around the same time (we were talking about where we got them, how much paid, etc) and the one I got has no hiss. Id take it back, :)

CRAP! I guess I'll send it back. It's a clean level "hiss" or squelch noise that remains there even as the volume is down.

CRAP CRAP CRAP!

Thanks gang!

Motorola replaced the radio without question on the second go around. Of course I had to write/submit a letter that explained the liability that the dealer as well as Moto might be exposed to if the radio failed and it was known to have a problem.

Good luck!

The dealer gave you flack on a brand new radio that was (obviously) still in warranty?

Yes, they attempted a repair and that did not work. After that they replaced it. Seems that it should have been replace the first time but it is very difficult to "force" any large company to do the right thing the first time.

I suppose it's hit or miss with some of these shops, but if it were me I would have just sent the radio back to /\/\ right off the bat and given you a loaner til it got back :)
