HT1550 Rain / Water / Moisture Damage

Post by adh »

We started buying the HT1550 a little over a year ago. Prior to that we bought MT2000/HT1000. I am getting some HT1550 coming in now that are toast after being used in amounts of rain that according to the users, did not seem to cause their MT2000/HT1000 problems. Of course I don't advocate using a portable in the rain but that is sometimes the reality in our company (railway).

Has anyone had a similar experience with the HT1550. I tried to get some guidelines from Motorola on what would be realistic since the specs say they comply with "MIL-STD 810 & IP54/55 environmental specifications for dust and water intrusion", but the best they could offer was "don't get them wet". :x

One good thing to come out of this is that I can now buy the Kenwood TK-2180 again, a better radio in my opinion.

TIA.

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

the weakness is in the housing design, there isn't a front shield that covers the innards as there is in a jedi, nor is the sealing integrity as good as the jedis.

I would agree the 2180 is far and above the imported pro-crap from ma M.

to get the same caliber of radio from motorola, move up to the Cosmo/XTS line or move to Kenwood. You may also like the Vertex VX-920, it's submersible and a serious public safety grade radio. Has a 3 year factory warranty too.
