Help with MSF5000 repeater

Post by ICEMANTIM »

Hello the ARES radio group i am a memeber with just got a MSF5000 repeater from a local business. It was programmed to 462.3500. As far as i can find out it will reprogrammed down to 443.200. We have been looking for a replacement and this seems to be ok. My question is are then and problems with reprogramming it. Will it need to be tuned or anything. It seens to be complete. Comes in a large case and i think it has a phone patch also, there is a phone line hooked up to it and i was told you could make phone calls on it when it was at the business. Any help or ideas would be great.
Thanks Tim

Yes, it WILL need to be completely retuned: the receiver and two VCOs. The transmitter and power amp are wideband and have no adjustments. If it's a repeater with an internal filter/duplexer, that will need to be retuned on the transmitter's frequency.

MSF5000s come in basically two flavors: those that have an EPROM inside, and those that can be programmed via software and a serial cable. The latter is much more desirable to have. You need a special "suitcase" programming unit to deal with the EPROMs, and to change the frequency you need to program that chip.

The model number will tell us a lot about what you really have. It will be on the junction panel on the right side of the station. Typical numbers will be C64CXB7106 or C64RLB7106 (these use software and a serial cable) or C64CLB7106 (the one that needs an EPROM programmed). There could be one or two letters after the numbers, such as A, AT, B, or BT. If the last letter is T, it means the station has an internal filter/duplexer.
