What radios do you own?: What's a radio?

Sounds like you have a Saber IE. The two side buttons are the repeater access tone buttons. The are only available with 6B or 8B core programs.

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

Saber...

He meant to say 6D and 8D core radios, not B.

The buttons are programmable for things such as emergency call, and on
the 5D core (most common) radios they don't do anything. Some of the early
Saber cases don't even have these buttons.

All of the later Saber cases had these buttons, Saber I, II, III, and I-E.

Every saber I've ever owned or seen has the same two buttons on the side. It's not limited to the 1E series.

I've got one Saber case that does not have the two buttons. I only keep it around 'cause it's in good condition.

I never said that the side buttons were limited to the 1E. I said that it sounds like he had a 1E because he said...

OK. I can see where you could get 1E from that if she was describing the Batwing selector switch vs the buttons. If I'm not mistaken (don't have a saber in front of me) there are dots on or near the RAT buttons as well.

The first release Sabers did not have the two RAT buttons below the PTT, but shortly after, they started appearing on later release radios, most are non functioning due to early CORE/COPE versions of the radios, but since they mfd. radios with updated CORE/COPE, it was simpler to just have one case style and use that.

I've also had cases without the RAT buttons, but sinc ei've never had use for them, they are simply another piece of rubber that will rip sometime in the future and allow moisture ingress into the frame.
